Dragon
Summary
The play «Dragon» by Evgeny Schwartz tells the story of a struggle against tyranny and liberation from fear. In a small town, a cruel Dragon has ruled for 400 years, demanding tribute and sacrifices of young women from the townspeople. The protagonist, a wandering knight named Lancelot, decides to fight the Dragon to free the town. He defeats the monster but encounters a new problem: the people, accustomed to servitude, cannot immediately embrace freedom. The town's mayor, who is no less cruel, attempts to seize the Dragon's power. Lancelot realizes that the true battle is just beginning, and to win, he must change the people's mindset, teaching them to be free and responsible for their own destiny. The play raises important themes of freedom, responsibility, and confronting inner fears.
