Brief Overview

In Charles Perrault's fairy tale «The Sleeping Beauty», a king and queen, who have long been unable to have children, finally welcome a daughter. They hold a grand celebration, inviting all the fairies of the kingdom except one, whom they forget. The offended fairy casts a curse on the princess, foretelling that she will prick her finger on a spindle and fall asleep for a hundred years. However, one of the good fairies softens the curse, promising that the princess will awaken with a prince's kiss. The princess indeed pricks her finger and falls asleep, along with the entire kingdom. A hundred years later, a young prince discovers the castle where the princess sleeps and awakens her with a kiss. They fall in love and live happily ever after.
