Main Characters and Their Development

• Hop-o'-My-Thumb - the main character of the tale, the youngest of seven brothers, who stands out for his intelligence and cleverness. Despite his small size, he shows resourcefulness and courage, saving his brothers from danger. His development involves initially appearing weak and helpless but ultimately proving to be the smartest and most determined.
• The Ogre - a wicked giant who wants to eat the boys. He is the antagonist in the story. His development involves initially seeming formidable and invincible but ultimately being outwitted and defeated by Hop-o'-My-Thumb.
• Hop-o'-My-Thumb's Parents - poor woodcutters who, due to poverty, decide to leave their children in the forest. Their development involves initially appearing cruel and heartless but ultimately being happy to have their children return and accepting them back.
• Hop-o'-My-Thumb's Brothers - six older brothers who initially seem stronger and more capable than Hop-o'-My-Thumb but ultimately rely on his wit and cleverness for their salvation.
