Main Characters and Their Development

• Katie Feldman – the main character who moves to the small town of Southport, North Carolina, to start a new life. At the beginning of the book, she is withdrawn and secretive, but gradually opens up and begins to trust people. She finds a job at a local restaurant and befriends her neighbor Jo. As the story progresses, Katie is revealed as a strong and independent woman who battles the ghosts of her past and finds love.
• Alex Wheatley – a widower and father of two who owns the local store. He is kind, caring, and patient. At the start of the book, he is still grieving the loss of his wife, but slowly begins to open up to new relationships. His relationship with Katie develops slowly but steadily, and he becomes her support and protector.
• Jo – Katie’s mysterious and friendly neighbor who helps her adapt to her new town. As the story unfolds, it is revealed that Jo is the spirit of Alex’s deceased wife, who guides and supports Katie in difficult moments.
• Kevin Tierney – Katie’s husband, from whom she fled because of his abusive behavior. He works as a police officer and is obsessed with finding Katie. As the story progresses, he becomes increasingly unstable and aggressive, leading to a dramatic climax.
