Summary
The novel «Bonjour Tristesse» tells the story of seventeen-year-old Cécile, who spends the summer on the French Riviera with her father Raymond and his mistress Elsa. Raymond is a carefree and charming man who doesn't think about the future and enjoys life. Cécile shares his views and leads a carefree lifestyle. However, their idyll is disrupted when Anne, an old friend of Cécile's late mother, joins them. Anne is a woman of strict morals and high principles. She begins to influence Raymond and Cécile, leading to conflicts and tension. Fearing the loss of her freedom and accustomed way of life, Cécile decides to sabotage the relationship between Anne and Raymond. She weaves intrigues, involving Elsa and her young boyfriend Cyril. Ultimately, her plan succeeds, but the consequences are tragic: Anne dies in a car accident. Cécile realizes that her actions have led to irreversible consequences, and for the first time in her life, she experiences a deep sense of sadness and guilt.
