Main Characters and Their Development

• Elena Ivanovna Kruchinina - the main heroine, an actress who has endured many hardships and trials. At the beginning of the play, she appears as a successful and acclaimed actress, but gradually her tragic past is revealed: the loss of her son and the betrayal of her beloved. Her development involves gaining inner strength and forgiving those who caused her pain.
• Grigory Neznamov - a young man who turns out to be Kruchinina's son. His development is tied to the search for his mother and the realization of his origins. Initially, he is full of doubts and insecurities, but by the end of the play, he finds his mother and gains self-confidence.
• Dudukin - a theatrical impresario who assists Kruchinina in her career. He represents a person who values talent and art but is also pragmatic and calculating.
