Brief Overview

The novel "The Luzhin Defense" tells the story of Alexander Ivanovich Luzhin, a talented chess player who shows extraordinary skills in the game from a young age. However, his genius in chess is accompanied by social awkwardness and emotional instability. Luzhin achieves great success in chess, but his obsession with the game leads to a nervous breakdown. After treatment, he tries to return to normal life and even gets married, but his past and chess continue to haunt him. Ultimately, Luzhin cannot withstand the pressure and commits suicide by jumping out of a window.
