Main Characters and Their Development

• Bella Swan — a seventeen-year-old girl who moves to Forks and becomes the object of affection for the vampire Edward and the werewolf Jacob. In "Eclipse," Bella faces the choice between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob, as well as deciding to become a vampire after graduation.
• Edward Cullen — a vampire in love with Bella. He belongs to a family of vampires who do not feed on human blood. In "Eclipse," Edward fights for Bella's love and prepares for battle with a new enemy to protect her.
• Jacob Black — Bella's best friend and a werewolf. His feelings for Bella turn into love, leading to conflict with Edward. Throughout "Eclipse," Jacob tries to convince Bella that she should choose him over Edward.
