The Shining

Main Characters and Their Development

• Jack Torrance - a former alcoholic seeking to start anew and rectify past mistakes. Over time, under the influence of the forces residing in the Overlook Hotel, his mental state deteriorates, leading to heightened aggression and a desire to harm his family.
• Wendy Torrance - Jack's wife, who possesses a strong will and love for her family. Throughout the events, she is forced to fight for her and her son's lives, displaying incredible courage and determination.
• Danny Torrance - a young boy with paranormal abilities called "the shining," which allow him to see the past and future and sense the presence of evil forces in the hotel. As he explores his abilities, he encounters the dark secrets of the Overlook Hotel.
• Dick Hallorann - the cook at the Overlook Hotel, who also possesses the "shining." He establishes a psychic connection with Danny and comes to their aid at a critical moment.
