Main Characters and Their Development

• Martin Sharp – a former TV presenter whose career has been ruined by scandal. At the start of the book, he is deeply depressed and plans to end his life. As the story unfolds, he finds new meaning and begins to rethink his actions.
• Maureen – a single mother caring for her disabled son. She feels isolated and hopeless, which leads her to thoughts of suicide. Over the course of the story, she finds support and understanding among the other characters, helping her cope with her struggles.
• Jess Crichton – a young woman going through a difficult time after breaking up with her boyfriend. She is impulsive and emotional, which often leads to conflict. As the story develops, she learns to manage her emotions and finds new purpose in life.
• JJ – an American musician who has lost his band and his dreams of a music career. He feels lost and alone. Throughout the story, he discovers new meaning and begins to rebuild his life.
