Main Characters and Their Development

• Colin Singleton - the main character of the book, a teenage prodigy who is experiencing a crisis after being dumped by his nineteenth girlfriend named Katherine. Colin strives to find a mathematical formula that will predict the future of any romantic relationship. During the journey, he learns to accept himself and his flaws, realizing that not everything in life can be predicted or controlled.
• Hassan Harbini - Colin's best friend, a Muslim and a lazy but good-natured guy. Hassan supports Colin on his journey and helps him realize the importance of genuine human relationships and friendship. In the process, he also begins to think about his own future and responsibilities.
• Lindsey Lee Wells - a girl Colin and Hassan meet in the small town of Gutshot. Lindsey helps Colin in his quest and becomes his friend. She also goes through her own development, realizing that she doesn't need to meet others' expectations and that she can be herself.
