Main Characters and Their Development

• Diana de Belflor — the countess and main heroine. She is intelligent, beautiful, and noble, but her pride and social standing prevent her from openly admitting her love for her secretary Teodoro. Throughout the play, she undergoes internal conflicts and doubts but ultimately decides to follow her heart.
• Teodoro — the secretary to Countess Diana. He is honest, loyal, and clever. In love with Diana, he is aware of the social barriers between them. Throughout the play, he shows persistence and determination, which ultimately help him win Diana's love.
• Marcela — Diana's maid. She plays an important role in the plot, helping Teodoro and Diana overcome obstacles on their path to happiness. Marcela also has her own romantic interests and demonstrates wit and loyalty.
• Fabio — Teodoro's servant. He is loyal to his master and assists him in his romantic endeavors. Fabio also adds comedic elements to the play with his wit and cunning.
• Ricardo — a count and one of Diana's suitors. He represents the typical aristocrat of his time, arrogant and self-assured. His character serves as a contrast to Teodoro and highlights the latter's virtues.
