Main Characters and Their Development

• Marie Antoinette - the main character of the book, an Austrian princess who became the queen of France. At the beginning of the book, she is depicted as a frivolous and naive girl, unprepared for the political intrigues and responsibilities that come with her position. Over time, especially after the onset of the French Revolution, she becomes more mature and aware of her role and responsibilities. Her character develops from carefree youth to tragic maturity, where she shows courage and resilience in the face of inevitable demise.
• Louis XVI - the king of France and Marie Antoinette's husband. At the beginning of the book, he is portrayed as a weak-willed and indecisive ruler, unable to cope with the growing problems in the country. His inability to make firm decisions and his submission to the influence of those around him lead to his downfall. By the end of the book, he is shown as a man who, despite his flaws, tries to maintain dignity in the face of mortal danger.
• Count von Fersen - a Swedish aristocrat and Marie Antoinette's lover. He plays an important role in her life, supporting her in difficult times and helping to organize the failed attempt to escape from France. His devotion and love for Marie Antoinette make him one of the most tragic characters in the book.
