Summary
«The Sword in the Stone» is the first book in T.H. White's series «The Once and Future King». It narrates the childhood and youth of the future King Arthur. The main character, nicknamed Wart, is raised in the castle of Sir Ector alongside his son Kay. Wart encounters the wizard Merlin, who becomes his mentor and teaches him various sciences and magic. Merlin transforms Wart into different animals so he can learn wisdom and understanding of the world from them. At the end of the book, Wart pulls the sword from the stone, thus proving his right to the throne and becoming King Arthur.
