Main Characters and Their Development

• Fedot Yevgrafych Vaskov - a sergeant and commander of an anti-aircraft unit. Initially portrayed as a strict and demanding leader, he gradually reveals himself as a person with deep emotions and care for his subordinates. His attitude towards the female gunners evolves from distrust and skepticism to respect and paternal care.
• Yevgenia Komelkova - one of the gunners, a vibrant and brave young woman. At first, she seems carefree and lighthearted, but as events unfold, she demonstrates incredible bravery and selflessness. Her tragic fate reveals the depth of her character and strength of spirit.
• Galina Chetvertak - the youngest of the gunners, a naive and dreamy girl. As the plot progresses, she undergoes severe trials that make her more mature and strong. Her death becomes one of the most tragic moments in the book.
