Summary

The novel "Spring Torrents" by Ivan Turgenev tells the story of love and disappointment experienced by a young Russian nobleman, Dmitry Sanin. While traveling through Europe, he meets a young Italian woman, Gemma Roselli, in the German city of Frankfurt am Main and falls in love with her. Sanin decides to stay in the city and soon proposes to Gemma. However, succumbing to the temptation and allure of the wealthy and cunning Maria Polozova, he breaks off his engagement with Gemma.
