Brief Overview

The novella "Mumu" by Ivan Turgenev tells the story of Gerasim, a deaf-mute serf serving a lady in Moscow. Gerasim is known for his immense physical strength and kindness. One day, he rescues a drowning puppy and names her Mumu. Gerasim and Mumu become inseparable friends. However, the capricious and cruel lady orders the dog to be disposed of. Gerasim is forced to drown Mumu, which becomes a great tragedy for him. After this, he leaves Moscow and returns to his village, where he continues to live in solitude.
