The Return of the King
Summary
«The Return of the King» is the third and final volume of the epic fantasy trilogy «The Lord of the Rings», written by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. The book depicts the climax of the War of the Ring. The plot revolves around two main events: the final battles of Middle-earth against Sauron's forces in Gondor and the journey of Frodo and Sam to Mordor to destroy the One Ring. The story covers the decisive battles on the Pelennor Fields, where Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf, and other heroes unite with the forces of Gondor against Sauron's armies, as well as the trials faced by Frodo and Sam on their arduous path to Mount Doom, where the Ring of Power must be destroyed. Ultimately, through sacrifice and bravery, Middle-earth witnesses the fall of Sauron, and peace is restored. This volume also follows the restoration of peace and the coronation of Aragorn as the king of Gondor and Arnor, marking the beginning of the Fourth Age of Middle-earth.
