Main Characters and Their Development

• Nell - The main protagonist, a girl from a poor family who receives the interactive book «A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer». The book teaches her various skills and knowledge, helping her grow into a smart and independent woman. As she matures, Nell faces numerous challenges but overcomes them thanks to the Primer and her determination.
• John Percival Hackworth - An engineer who creates the Primer for his employer's daughter. He breaks the law by making a copy of the book for his own daughter, leading to serious consequences for him and his family. Throughout the book, Hackworth experiences internal conflicts and moral dilemmas.
• Miranda - An actress working in interactive systems who becomes a sort of mentor to Nell through the Primer. She grows attached to Nell and begins to care about her fate, which changes her own life.
• Lord Finkle-McGraw - An influential aristocrat who commissions the creation of the Primer for his granddaughter. He believes in the importance of education and self-improvement, and his actions significantly influence the plot's development.
