Brief Overview
«Antigone» is a tragedy by Sophocles that explores the conflict between human laws and divine laws. The main character, Antigone, decides to bury her brother Polynices despite the decree of King Creon, who considers him a traitor. Antigone believes that divine laws require the burial of the dead and defies the king's orders. Creon orders Antigone's execution, leading to tragic consequences: Antigone's suicide, the death of Creon's son Haemon, who was Antigone's fiancé, and the suicide of Creon's wife, Eurydice. In the end, Creon is left alone, realizing his mistakes and having lost all his loved ones.
