Main Characters and Their Development

• Prospero — the main character of the play, the former Duke of Milan, who was overthrown by his brother Antonio and sent to the island. On the island, he becomes a powerful magician and seeks to regain his power and take revenge on his enemies. Throughout the play, he learns to forgive and lets go of his grievances, regaining his dukedom and freeing his servants.
• Miranda — Prospero's daughter, who grew up on the island. She is innocent and naive, yet possesses a kind heart and a strong sense of justice. She falls in love with Ferdinand and becomes a symbol of hope for a new beginning.
• Caliban — a wild man and the son of the witch Sycorax, who considers the island his home. He resents Prospero for enslaving him and dreams of freedom. His development shows the struggle between natural instincts and civilized behavior.
• Ariel — a spirit of the air, Prospero's servant, who longs for freedom. He carries out all of Prospero's orders, hoping for the promised freedom. By the end of the play, his loyalty and diligence are rewarded, and he gains his long-awaited freedom.
• Antonio — Prospero's brother, who usurped his throne. He is ambitious and cunning, willing to do anything for power. By the end of the play, his misdeeds are forgiven by Prospero, but his character remains unchanged.
• Ferdinand — the son of the King of Naples, who falls in love with Miranda. He is honest and noble, willing to endure trials for his love. His relationship with Miranda symbolizes reconciliation and hope for a better future.
