King Lear

Main Characters and Their Development

• King Lear - an aging monarch who decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters based on their love for him. Realizing his mistake when his elder daughters Goneril and Regan reveal their cruelty, he loses his sanity from despair and deep emotional pain.
• Goneril - Lear's eldest daughter, cruel and ambitious, who deceives her father about her love to gain a larger share of his kingdom.
• Regan - Lear's second daughter, similar to Goneril, shows cruelty and ambition, seeking power. Together with her sister, she betrays their father.
• Cordelia - Lear's youngest and favorite daughter, the only one who truly loves him. Although initially rejected by her father for refusing to flatter him, she tries to save him when the other daughters turn against him.
• Edmund - the illegitimate son of Gloucester, uses cunning and deceit to try to seize power, betraying everyone around him. His actions lead to deadly consequences for many characters.
• Edgar - Gloucester's legitimate son, who, despite Edmund's deceit, demonstrates strength of spirit and nobility, ultimately helping to restore justice.
