Main Characters and Their Development

• Harry Goldfarb: A young man who dreams of a better life. At the beginning of the book, he is full of hope and plans, but his life gradually falls apart due to drug addiction. Harry becomes increasingly alienated and desperate, losing touch with reality and his loved ones.
• Sara Goldfarb: Harry's mother, who lives alone and dreams of appearing on a television show. She starts taking diet pills, which lead to severe mental and physical problems. Sara gradually loses her sanity and ends up in a psychiatric hospital.
• Marion Silver: Harry's girlfriend, who also dreams of a better life and opening her own fashion boutique. Together with Harry, she starts using drugs, leading to the destruction of her dreams and personal degradation. By the end of the book, Marion finds herself in a desperate situation, forced into prostitution for a fix.
• Tyrone Love: Harry's friend and partner in their drug business. Tyrone also dreams of a better life and strives to escape poverty. However, his drug addiction leads to arrest and imprisonment, shattering all his hopes and plans.
