Brief Overview

«Requiem for a Dream» by Hubert Selby is a tragic tale of the downfall of four interconnected lives. Harry Goldfarb, his mother Sara, his girlfriend Marion, and his friend Tyrone all chase their dreams, but their lives gradually unravel under the influence of drugs. Harry and Tyrone dream of getting rich by dealing heroin, but soon become addicted themselves. Marion, a talented artist, also descends into the world of drugs. Sara, dreaming of fame and weight loss, starts taking amphetamines, leading to a mental breakdown. Ultimately, all the characters find themselves in hopeless situations, their dreams shattered and lives destroyed.
