Oscar and the Lady in Pink

Main Characters and Their Development

• Oscar - A ten-year-old boy with leukemia, living in a hospital. He knows he has little time left, and this awareness makes him very wise for his age. Throughout the book, Oscar goes through all the stages of accepting death: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. He writes letters to God, sharing his thoughts and feelings, which helps him cope with his situation.
• The Lady in Pink (Mamie Rose) - An elderly woman, a volunteer who visits the hospital to spend time with the children. She becomes a true friend and mentor to Oscar. Rose shares stories from her life with Oscar, helping him understand and accept his fate. She supports him in the most difficult moments and helps him live his remaining days with joy and meaning.
