Main Characters and Their Development

• Lin (Lindsay) - the main character and narrator of the book. His real name is Gregory David Roberts. After escaping from an Australian prison, he finds himself in Bombay, where he becomes part of the local criminal world. Lin goes through numerous trials, from living in the slums to participating in the Afghan war, and finds his place in this complex world.
• Prabaker - a good-natured and cheerful Indian who becomes Lin's best friend. He helps Lin adapt to life in Bombay and introduces him to the local culture. Prabaker remains a loyal friend until the very end, despite all difficulties.
• Karla Saaranen - a mysterious and attractive woman with whom Lin develops a complex and deep relationship. Karla has a dark past and her own secrets, which gradually unfold as the plot develops.
• Abdel Khader Khan - an influential crime boss who becomes Lin's mentor. He sees potential in Lin and helps him develop in the criminal world. Khader Khan also has his own principles and philosophy, which greatly influence Lin.
• Didier Levinski - a French conman and friend of Lin, living in Bombay. He possesses a sharp mind and sarcastic sense of humor. Didier assists Lin in various situations and becomes an important part of his life.
• Lisa Carter - an American who comes to Bombay in search of a better life. She becomes a friend of Lin and plays an important role in his life, despite her own problems and difficulties.
