Main Characters and Their Development
- Louis de Pointe du Lac: The main character and narrator of the book. Louis was turned into a vampire by Lestat at the end of the 18th century. At the beginning of the book, he is full of despair and fear of immortality, but gradually he begins to accept his nature. Louis strives to maintain his humanity and often suffers from his thirst for blood and immortality.
- Lestat de Lioncourt: The vampire who turned Louis. Lestat is portrayed as a charismatic yet cruel and selfish character. He revels in his vampiric nature and feels no remorse for his actions. Throughout the book, Lestat plays the role of antagonist to Louis but is also his teacher and companion.
- Claudia: A young girl turned into a vampire by Lestat. Claudia becomes the daughter of Louis and Lestat. She matures mentally but remains in the body of a child, causing her deep suffering. Eventually, Claudia rebels against Lestat and attempts to kill him to gain freedom.
- Armand: An ancient vampire, leader of a vampire coven in Paris. Armand captivates Louis with his wisdom and promise of answers about immortality. He becomes Louis's new mentor after Lestat's departure. Armand seeks spiritual enlightenment and sees in Louis a chance for his own salvation.
- Daniel Molloy: The journalist who interviews Louis. Daniel plays an important role in the book, as through his questions and reactions, the reader learns Louis's story. At the end of the book, Daniel expresses a desire to become a vampire, inspired by Louis's tale.
