Main Characters and Their Development

• The main character of «Anthem» is a man known as «Equality 7-2521». At the beginning of the book, he lives in a collectivist society where individuality is suppressed, and everyone must adhere to strict rules. Equality 7-2521 stands out for his desire for knowledge and independence. He discovers an underground hideout where he studies science and discovers electricity. Gradually, he realizes his uniqueness and begins to reject the ideals of society. Eventually, he escapes to the forest, where he finds freedom and adopts a new name — Prometheus, symbolizing his new beginning and pursuit of individualism. Accompanying him is a girl known as «Liberty 5-3000», who also rejects societal norms and becomes his companion. She takes the name Gaea, and together they begin to build a new life based on the principles of freedom and individuality.
