Summary
The novella «The Shot» by Alexander Pushkin tells the story of a mysterious officer named Silvio, who lives in a small town and is renowned for his shooting skills. Silvio keeps his past life a secret, but one day he shares a story about being insulted by a young count and being unable to take revenge due to the count's indifference to life. Several years later, Silvio receives a letter informing him that the count is getting married. He sets out to confront him and finish their duel. At the crucial moment, Silvio sees that the count and his young wife fear for each other's lives, and he decides not to shoot, satisfied with his moral victory. Silvio leaves, sparing the count and his wife.
