Main Characters and Their Development

• Maria Gavrilovna – the main heroine, a young noblewoman in love with Vladimir Nikolaevich. She decides to secretly marry him, but their plans are thwarted by the blizzard. She later experiences deep emotional turmoil but eventually finds happiness with another man.
• Vladimir Nikolaevich – Maria Gavrilovna's beloved, a young officer. He sincerely loves Maria and is willing to do anything for her, but due to the blizzard, he cannot reach the church for the wedding. He later dies, which is a great blow to Maria.
• Burmin – a young hussar officer who accidentally finds himself in the church on the night of the blizzard and unknowingly becomes Maria Gavrilovna's husband. Eventually, he confesses this to Maria, and they decide to be together, bringing happiness to both.
