Main Characters and Their Development

• Aleksei Ivanovich - the main character, an officer returning home after the war. Throughout the narrative, he faces internal conflicts and reevaluates his life and relationships with his family.
• Lyubov Petrovna - Aleksei Ivanovich's wife, who awaited his return. Her character is revealed through her patience, love, and anticipation, as well as her reaction to her husband's return.
• Nadya and Petya - Aleksei and Lyubov's children. They symbolize the future and hope, and also show how the war affected children and their perception of the world.
