Brief Overview

Vladimir Nabokov's novel "Lolita" tells the story of Humbert Humbert, a middle-aged European intellectual who becomes obsessed with a twelve-year-old girl named Dolores Haze, whom he calls Lolita. Humbert marries Lolita's mother to be closer to the girl, but after the mother's death, he becomes her guardian. Humbert and Lolita travel across America, and he tries to maintain her affection despite her resistance and attempts to escape. Eventually, Lolita leaves him for another man, and Humbert, consumed by jealousy and despair, kills him.
