Rasmus and the Vagabond

Main Characters and Their Development

• Rasmus — an orphan boy who lives in an orphanage and dreams of finding a family. He decides to escape from the orphanage and sets off on an adventure-filled journey. Along the way, he learns to be brave and independent, and also finds true friends.
• Oscar — a vagabond who becomes Rasmus's friend and mentor. He is kind and caring, helping the boy on his journey and teaching him important life lessons. Oscar shows Rasmus that a true family is not always about blood relations, but about those who care for you.
• Lisbeth — a girl Rasmus meets during his adventures. She is also an orphan and dreams of having a family. Lisbeth becomes Rasmus's friend, and together they support each other in difficult times.
• Miss Hawk — the strict and stern caretaker at the orphanage where Rasmus lives. She symbolizes the restrictions and lack of freedom from which the boy seeks to escape.
