Main Characters and Their Development
- Elwin Ransom - the main character of the book, a professor of philology who accidentally ends up on the planet Malacandra (Mars). Throughout the book, he undergoes significant development, starting as a frightened and uncertain man and becoming a confident and decisive hero who understands and embraces alien cultures and their philosophy.
