Rikki-Tikki-Tavi

Main Characters and Their Development

• Rikki-Tikki-Tavi - a young mongoose, the main protagonist of the story. He is brave, determined, and loyal. At the beginning of the tale, he finds himself in a human home after a flood and gradually earns the family's trust. His main goal is to protect his new friends from the dangerous snakes, Nag and Nagaina. In doing so, he shows incredible courage and cleverness, defeating his enemies and becoming a true protector.
• Nag - a large black cobra, one of the main antagonists. He is cruel and dangerous, aiming to kill the humans to make the house free for himself and his mate, Nagaina. Nag represents a threat that Rikki-Tikki-Tavi must overcome.
• Nagaina - Nag's wife, also a cobra and a main antagonist. She is cunning and vengeful, especially after Nag's death. Nagaina plans to kill the human family to avenge her partner and protect her future offspring. She becomes the final serious challenge for Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.
• Teddy - a little boy, the son of the family that takes in Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. He is friendly and curious, quickly forming a bond with the mongoose. Teddy symbolizes innocence and needs the protection that Rikki-Tikki-Tavi provides.
• Teddy's mother and father - Teddy's parents, who care for their son and welcome Rikki-Tikki-Tavi into their home. They are grateful to the mongoose for his protection and support him in his fight against the snakes.
• Darzee - a bird living in the garden. She helps Rikki-Tikki-Tavi by warning him of the snakes' presence and providing moral support. Darzee symbolizes allies and friends who assist the main character.
• Chuchundra - a muskrat living in the house. She is timid and cautious but still provides Rikki-Tikki-Tavi with important information about the snakes' plans. Chuchundra shows that even the most timid can be helpful.
