The Tommyknockers

Main Characters and Their Development

• Bobbi Anderson - A writer living in the small town of Haven. She discovers the alien ship, which leads to her gradual transformation into a Tommyknocker. Her personality and behavior change as she becomes obsessed with the excavation and starts losing her humanity.
• Jim Gardener - A poet and Bobbi's friend. He comes to Haven to help Bobbi but soon notices strange changes in her and other townspeople. Jim tries to resist the influence of the Tommyknockers and save Bobbi, but he himself is affected by the alien ship.
• Ruth Merrill - The sheriff of Haven. She begins to notice strange events in the town and changes in the residents' behavior. Ruth tries to investigate but faces resistance and hostility from those already under the Tommyknockers' influence.
• Ev Hillman - A resident of Haven who is also affected by the Tommyknockers. He becomes obsessed with creating various devices using new knowledge and abilities gained from the alien ship.
• David Brown - A boy who is also affected by the Tommyknockers. He starts exhibiting unusual abilities and becomes part of the Tommyknockers' collective mind, losing his individuality.
