Main Characters and Their Development

• Roland Deschain - the main protagonist, a gunslinger who continues his journey to the Dark Tower. In this book, he faces the necessity of drawing three people from our world to become his companions. Roland battles inner demons and physical hardships, making him more human and vulnerable.
• Eddie Dean - a heroin addict from 1980s New York, whom Roland draws first. Eddie undergoes significant development, overcoming his addiction and becoming a loyal ally to Roland. His wit and resourcefulness become vital to the group.
• Odetta/Detta Walker - a woman with dissociative identity disorder, whom Roland draws second. Odetta is intelligent and kind, while Detta is aggressive and vengeful. Throughout the book, her personalities integrate into Susannah Dean, making her a strong and unified individual.
• Jack Mort - the third drawn, a serial killer who does not become part of Roland's ka-tet. His role is to showcase the dark side of human nature and aid Roland in his understanding of the world.
