Brief Overview
The play «The King Amuses Himself» is set at the French court in the 16th century. The main character, King Francis I, is known for his romantic escapades and carefree attitude towards life. His jester, Triboulet, assists him in intrigues and amusements but suffers from his role and the contempt of others. In an attempt to take revenge on the king, Triboulet hires an assassin, but due to a fatal mistake, his own daughter becomes the victim. The play ends tragically, highlighting the cruelty and senselessness of royal amusements.
