Main Characters and Their Development

• James Herriot - the main character and author of the book, a young veterinarian just starting his career in the countryside. Throughout the book, he develops as a professional, learns to handle challenges, and finds his place in the community.
• Siegfried Farnon - an experienced veterinarian and James's boss. He is charismatic but sometimes unpredictable and eccentric. Over the course of the book, he becomes a mentor and friend to James.
• Tristan Farnon - Siegfried's younger brother, a veterinary student. He often finds himself in comical situations due to his carefree and lazy nature, but ultimately shows his dedication to the profession and family.
• Helen Alderson - a local girl with whom James develops a romantic relationship. She is kind, understanding, and supportive, helping James adapt to village life.
