Brief Overview

The novel «Victoria» by Knut Hamsun tells the love story between Johannes, the miller's son, and Victoria, the daughter of a wealthy landowner. Johannes has been in love with Victoria since childhood, but social differences and circumstances prevent them from being together. Victoria is forced to marry another man to save her family from financial ruin. Despite this, the feelings between Johannes and Victoria remain unchanged. In the end, Victoria dies, leaving Johannes a letter in which she confesses her love. The novel explores themes of class differences, sacrifice, and the inevitability of fate.
