Main Characters and Their Development

• Allan Quatermain - the main character and narrator, an experienced hunter and explorer. At the beginning of the book, he is portrayed as someone not seeking adventure but agrees to the expedition for money. As the story progresses, he demonstrates leadership qualities, courage, and determination, becoming a key figure in the successful completion of the expedition.
• Sir Henry Curtis - an English aristocrat who hires Allan Quatermain to find his missing brother. Initially presented as a strong and determined man willing to do anything to save his brother. Throughout the expedition, his character is revealed through acts of nobility, courage, and loyalty to his friends.
• Captain John Good - a naval officer and friend of Sir Henry. Initially described as a man with a sense of humor and a penchant for neatness. During the expedition, he proves to be a loyal and reliable companion, willing to make sacrifices for the common cause.
• Umbopa (Ignosi) - a mysterious porter who joins the expedition. Initially presented as an enigmatic and silent man. It is later revealed that he is the rightful heir to the throne of the Kukuanaland kingdom. His development includes returning to his people and restoring justice.
