Main Characters and Their Development

• Mark Sway — an eleven-year-old boy who accidentally witnesses the suicide of a mafia lawyer and learns a dangerous secret. Throughout the book, he shows courage and resourcefulness as he tries to protect himself and his family from mafia persecution and FBI pressure.
• Reggie Love — the attorney who takes on the task of defending Mark. She demonstrates professionalism and care for the boy despite threats and challenging circumstances. In the process, she also faces her own fears and moral dilemmas.
• Roy Foltrigg — a federal prosecutor who is determined to uncover the secret known to Mark and use it to fight the mafia. He is ambitious and willing to go to great lengths to achieve his goals, making him an antagonist in the story.
