Main Characters and Their Development

• Assol: The main heroine of the book, daughter of the sailor Longren. From childhood, Assol believes in the miracle foretold by the old Egle, that one day a ship with scarlet sails will come for her and take her to a happy life. She grows up in solitude, enduring the mockery and ridicule of the villagers, but maintains her faith and dream. In the end, her dream comes true when Gray arrives for her on a ship with scarlet sails.
• Arthur Gray: A young aristocrat and captain of a ship. He has dreamed of sea voyages and adventures since childhood. Upon meeting Assol, he decides to fulfill her dream and transforms his ship into a symbol of hope and love by adorning it with scarlet sails. Gray embodies the romantic hero, ready to perform feats for love.
• Longren: Assol's father, a former sailor who settled in a small house by the sea after his wife's death and took up making toys. Longren is a reserved and stern man but deeply loves his daughter. His tragic fate and resilience in the face of life's challenges command respect.
• Egle: An old storyteller and seer who once met young Assol and predicted that one day a ship with scarlet sails would come for her. His words become a source of hope and belief in miracles for Assol.
