Main Characters and Their Development

• Miles Halter (Pudge) - the main character of the book, who goes to a private boarding school in search of the «Great Perhaps». At the beginning of the book, he is a reserved and introverted teenager, but as the story progresses, he finds friends, experiences first love, and faces tragedy, which helps him understand himself and the world around him.
• Alaska Young - a mysterious and charismatic girl who becomes the object of Miles' affection. She is smart, beautiful, but also deeply troubled and unpredictable. Her death becomes the central event of the book, prompting other characters to reevaluate their lives and relationships.
• The Colonel (Chip Martin) - Miles' roommate and best friend. He is intelligent, loyal, and has a strong sense of justice. The Colonel helps Miles adapt to life at school and supports him in difficult times.
• Takumi Hikohito - another friend of Miles, who plays an important role in their group. He is witty, talented, and devoted to his friends. Takumi also helps uncover some of the mysteries surrounding Alaska.
• Lara Buterskaya - a girl from Romania who becomes a friend and brief love interest of Miles. She is kind, caring, and sincere, but her relationship with Miles is complicated by his feelings for Alaska.
