Brief Overview

«Viy» by Nikolai Gogol tells the story of a seminary student named Khoma Brut, who, during his vacation, finds himself in a village where he encounters supernatural forces. After the unexpected death of the village elder's daughter, Khoma is forced to read prayers over her body for three nights. During the first two nights, he experiences terrifying visions but manages to hold his ground. On the third night, Viy himself—a mythical creature capable of seeing everything hidden—appears before him. Overwhelmed by horror, Khoma dies upon seeing Viy's open eyes.
