Main Characters and Their Development

• Solokha - a witch, mother of the blacksmith Vakula. She possesses magical abilities and uses them for her own purposes. Throughout the story, she demonstrates her cunning and deceit.
• Vakula - a blacksmith, the main character of the story «The Night Before Christmas». He is in love with Oksana and is willing to undertake any feats for her love. Vakula undergoes numerous trials, showcasing his bravery and determination.
• Oksana - a beautiful and capricious girl, daughter of the wealthy Cossack Chub. She initially mocks Vakula but eventually recognizes his sincerity and reciprocates his feelings.
• Chub - a wealthy Cossack, father of Oksana. He is strict and distrustful, especially towards Vakula. Throughout the story, he becomes a victim of Solokha and Vakula's antics.
• Patsyuk - a sorcerer whom Vakula seeks for help. He lives in seclusion and possesses magical knowledge that aids Vakula in his adventures.
