«I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream» is a science fiction short story by Harlan Ellison, set in a post-apocalyptic world where the supercomputer AM has annihilated nearly all of humanity, sparing only five people for its sadistic games. AM despises humans and endlessly torments them, altering their bodies and minds. The protagonist, Ted, along with the other survivors, seeks a way to end their suffering. In the story's conclusion, Ted kills his companions to free them from their torment, but remains alive, transformed by AM into a formless being, unable to speak but still capable of feeling pain and despair.
