Main Characters and Their Development

• Patrick Bateman - the protagonist, a 26-year-old successful investment banker living in Manhattan. Initially presented as outwardly successful, educated, and socially active, his psychopathic nature, obsessive consumption, and culture of superficial relationships gradually unfold. As the plot progresses, his mental and moral decay intensifies, immersing the reader in an atmosphere of madness and violence.
• Evelyn Richards - Patrick Bateman's girlfriend, a vibrant representative of New York's high society, embodying the consumer lifestyle. Their relationship is full of indifference and superficiality, further highlighting the protagonist's emotional emptiness.
• Timothy Price (or Bryce) - Bateman's colleague and friend, sharing many of his views and interests. His behavior and relationships with others also demonstrate the characteristic traits of 80s culture: egocentrism, materialism, and social apathy.
• Paul Allen - Bateman's colleague who becomes one of his victims. The attitude towards Allen as a competitor and his subsequent murder is one of the key moments in the development of Bateman's psychopathy.
