Summary
«Twenty Years After» is a historical novel by Alexandre Dumas, serving as the second part of the series about the adventures of D'Artagnan and his three musketeer friends: Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. The action takes place in 1648–1649, during the Fronde — the reign of the young Louis XIV and the struggle against Cardinal Mazarin. Twenty years after the events of the first book, the heroes face new challenges, including military actions, political intrigues, and personal dilemmas. D'Artagnan serves in the royal guard, Athos lives peacefully on his estate, raising his adopted son Raoul, Porthos dreams of glory and wealth, and Aramis engages in spiritual practices while maintaining an interest in intrigues and adventures. Together, the friends once again fight for justice, honor, and friendship, overcoming numerous obstacles and trials.
