Veronika Decides to Die

Main Characters and Their Development

• Veronika — the main character, a young woman who decides to end her life but, after a failed attempt, finds herself in the Villete psychiatric clinic. There, she learns she has only a few days left to live due to heart damage. During her stay at the clinic, Veronika begins to reevaluate her life, discovers new emotions and desires, and ultimately decides to live life to the fullest despite her limited time.
• Dr. Igor — the head doctor at the Villete clinic, who uses unconventional treatment methods. He informs Veronika of her condition, which becomes a catalyst for her internal transformation. Dr. Igor also conducts his own research on the nature of madness and depression.
• Zedka — a patient at the clinic suffering from depression. She helps Veronika understand that many people hide their true feelings and desires. Zedka becomes an example for Veronika of how to deal with inner demons and find meaning in life.
• Eduard — a patient at the clinic suffering from schizophrenia. He becomes a close friend and love interest for Veronika. Through her relationship with Eduard, Veronika discovers love and emotional closeness, which aids her in her healing process.
• Maria — a patient at the clinic, a former lawyer who suffers from panic attacks. She also plays an important role in Veronika's life, showing her that even successful people can experience deep inner suffering.
